save the world and our lives

Subject: We may only have 3 years left to save the world and our lives – but we can do it!

Dear friend:

Today our planet Earth is facing an extremely severe crisis. We only have about 1200 days until the point of no return. But there is hope if we give up meat eating, which is cruel to the animals and damaging to our environment and health, and choose a compassionate plant-based diet, treat animals with love, safeguard the environment and pray for divine grace to turn things around and save the planet.

There is no time for procrastination. For our posterity, our countries, and Earth itself, please take immediate action to spread the word about the necessity for adopting a vegan diet. It is the one sure way to save the world.

With only 3 years left, we have nothing to lose but our habits. Simply by switching to a compassionate and sustainable lifestyle, billions will be saved. We do not have a second chance for this.

Climatologists attribute our recent catastrophic weather and climate changes to the increasing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. 350ppm is said to be dangerous, and we have already reached 385ppm, and it continues to rise. Scientists around the world continue to monitor the alarming ice thaw in Greenland.

James Hansen, head of NASA’s top institute studying climate change, said that global warming will not only cause more severe droughts, but will cause moisture to increase dramatically in the atmosphere, so that when it does rain, the amount of precipitation will continue to cause catastrophic flooding.

In Burma, a great flood claimed 130,000 lives in 2008.

In the fall of 2008, over 10 countries experienced serious flooding.

From January to August 2009, our world experienced many extreme weather conditions including wild fires, floods, droughts, hurricanes, tornadoes, heat waves, hales, and snowing in the deserts.

United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC panel recently predicted that by the year 2050, 17% of Bangladesh will be under water. When the affected population loses their homes, they will flee to higher ground. Riots and unrests will be inevitable, as there will be too many refugees to rescue.

Two-thirds of greenhouse gases are the contribution of the livestock industry.

Please consider the impact of your diet: On an individual level, you can switch to energy efficient light bulbs, buy hybrid cars, plant trees… but nothing is faster, simpler, more effective and economical in slowing down global warming than changing one’s dietary habits. Former Sierra Club Chairman and Greenpeace co-founder Paul Watson said: Even if a vegetarian drives a Hummer, it is better than a meat-eater traveling by bicycle.

Boycotting meat can greatly reduce carbon footprint. A meat diet produces twice as much carbon emission as a vegetarian diet. A vegan diet produces only one-seventh the greenhouse gas of a meat diet. An organic vegan diet produces only one-seventeenth the carbon footprint of a meat diet.

If people in America were to eat no meat for one day per week, the amount of carbon reduction would be 7 hundred million tons per year, equaling the total car emissions in the United States.

“ I believe that the greatest contribution one can make for the environment is to be a vegetarian.”

“The amount of emissions produced by a kilogram of steak is equivalent to four times the emissions that would be released by producing a kilogram of aluminum… beef being much more of a contributor than driving a four-wheel vehicle. These are facts that are greatly under-appreciated, so it means you need to be climate conscious about your diet, because there are some impacts in your lifestyle that will have a much greater effect on global warming than others and people don’t actually understand what they are.”

“The Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012.”
- NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally

“We have passed the tipping point, but not the point of no return. We can still turn things around, but we must change immediately, take action immediately.”
- NASA top climatologist James Hansen

“The Arctic permafrost is releasing methane gases. This greenhouse gas bubbles up from the bottom of the lakes, and is rapidly warming the planet… Permafrost is like a time bomb waiting to go off – as it continues to thaw, tens of billions of tons of methane would be released into the atmosphere, enhancing climate warming.”
- Dr. Katey Walter, University of Alaska Fairbanks

“Stop eating meat; ride bicycles; be frugal – that is how you can help stop global warming.”
- 2007 Nobel laureate and chair of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Dr. Rajendra Pachauri

Recently, 2000 scientists and other dignitaries gathered in Copenhagen, Denmark for the “End of the World” Conference to report the latest alarming data. Please watch this video: http://www.badongo.com/vid/1057847)

According to the scientists, the previous prediction of 2 degrees of rising temperature is severely underestimated.

Dr. Katherine Richardson, marine biologist and head of the Conference, said in an interview: “We can forget about the 2 degrees Celsius. We are now facing the situation where we have to avoid a 5-6 degrees rise in temperature.”

Many participating scientists said that the most effective way to stop global warming at this time is to adopt a vegetarian diet.

Professor Dale Jamieson said that the problem can be solved on the individual level by changing one’s lifestyle, and reducing our meat consumption is probably the single most effective thing that individuals can do immediately to reduce the greenhouse gas impact.
